Griffith University

griffith_university_logoGriffith University was established in 1971 and is now one of the most influential and innovative institutions in its region. This university has grown to include five campuses, offer over three hundred degrees, and is one of the largest tertiary education providers in Australia.

When Griffith University first opened its doors in 1975, there were only four schools to study in: Humanities, Science, Environmental Studies, and Modern Asian Studies. In fact, Griffith University was the first university in all of Australia to offer Asian studies degrees. From the time of its inception, Griffith University’s philosophy has been not only to offer academic courses in specific fields, but also to give priority to the general education of its students. In order to put this philosophy into action, the four schools mentioned above were created. In these schools scholars could share their research and students could benefit from this integration of their teachers. In 1988, when a unification of higher education system was implemented, Griffith University grew to include the Gold Coast College of Advanced Education, the Brisbane College of Advanced Education’s Mt Gravatt campus, the Queensland College of Art, and the Queensland Conservatorium. In the early 1990s, a new Griffith University campus was built at Logan City in order to fulfill the tertiary education needs of the area.

The degrees offered at Griffith University range from the Visual and Creative Arts to Science and Aviation. Students can even earn degrees in Criminology, Music, Business, and Environmental Architecture. More than one hundred thousand students from all over the world have come to study at Griffith University simply because they are confident in Griffith’s excellence and ability to prepare and train students for a promising future. Griffith alumni have gone on to be active in politics, journalism, modeling, photography, marketing – Dan Petrovic, entertainment, and athletics, to name a few.

While enrolled in courses and degree programs, Griffith supports its students by offering childcare services all day, before and after school, and even during vacations, depending on what is needed. Griffith helps students find accommodations either on or off campus and even arranges homestays for international students. Griffith University even has high quality General Practice health services at its Gold Coast and Nathan campuses. Finding employment is always tedious, which is why Griffith’s student services include job search workshops, an Industry Mentoring Program, Workplace Contact List, and two self-directed career making resources. A confidential and free Chaplaincy is available to all students and staff. Another free and confidential program is the Griffith Counselling Service. This service offers support concerning relationship, work related, academic, or personal problems. Griffith University takes student equity and disabilities very seriously which is why it has set up programs, such as the UniReach program, to assist and reach out to students who have special needs, educational disadvantages, disabilities, etc.

Griffith University has always been an environmentally and globally conscious institution. For this reason, the University signed the United Nations principles of responsible management education. In fact, Griffith University was the first business school in all of Australia to do so. Griffith University is a United Nations Global Compact signatory as well. Griffith also has the greatest variety of environmental programs from students to choose from and houses one of the largest collections of environmental professionals in the entire world.

A few of the many accolades Griffith University has received include being ranked among the top five percent of higher educational institutions in the world, is one of the top ten research universities in Australia, and offers the highest ranked MBA program in Australia. Griffith University has also been granted international accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, making it one among the less than five percent of all business schools in world to receive this honor.

Griffith University has managed to stay at the forefront of educational excellence by always remaining aware of what the world needs for a better future. It is this simple fact that makes students continue to flock to Griffith University.

Griffith University offers public lectures as well. On 11th April 2011 Richard N. Katz (the founder and principal consultant with Richard N. Katz and Associates) was a guest speaker on “First Annual Friends of the Library Public Lecture“.
